new school boards training

In a historic moment, three newly-created school districts have launched searches for their inaugural superintendents.

In 2024 voters approved the creation of three new school districts. New school board members were elected last month and have begun the historic challenge of building new school districts.

“This is a significant milestone for our community because new school boards have the rare opportunity to establish their own vision and culture,” said Rob Smith, interim superintendent of Alpine School District. “This is responsible governance in practice. Voters have chosen board members to establish public education systems in their communities; now those boards will look for a strong and skilled leader who can execute their vision.”

The Utah School Boards Association is managing the application process on behalf of new school boards. All three boards take applications through early January. Detailed announcements are available at https://usba.cc/

Boards anticipate making offers to superintendent candidates in February. New school districts will assume all operations on July 1, 2027. On that date, Alpine School District will no longer exist.

“Our legacy as Alpine School District will continue in these new school districts,” said Smith. We are invested in their success, and will do everything we can to help new school boards find the right superintendents to build on the strong foundation of excellence we have established together.”
